Medical Marijuana Caregiver Programs (Benefits) in 2019

We remember it like it was yesterday. Medical marijuana patients would hand over their rights to grow cannabis plants as a sacrifice so that their favorite shops to grow Medical cannabis for all their friends and family. It was honorable, courageous, and a great way to make a quick buck. And it was this last reason why the program was such a success. Yup, that’s right! Patients were given a monthly or yearly stipend to spend at their favorite dispensaries and this kept them signing over their plants for a chance to snag an ounce at unreasonably low costs. And it worked great. Dispensaries could finally grow the plants they needed to help their communities, and patients visited once-a-month to get their free goods. But Colorado laws recently changed and with this change came a lot of strife and discontentment.

Medical cannabis grows can finally plant as many seeds as they can sow without the need for stopping patients from growing their own. With this change, however, most dispensaries cut the fat of spending thousands of dollars a month on frivolous caregiver programs. The unfortunate truth is that most medical marijuana patients were using this program solely for the free money and not because they cared about that cultivators. We know that this doesn’t apply to everyone and we saw firsthand just how upset those patients were to hear about the recent legal reformation.

We sat, long and hard, thinking over all of our options and watching all of our competitors do away with these programs. We also saw that we couldn’t possibly afford to pay each patient $75/month for no reason. It was for these reasons that we said, “LET THEM RECEIVE BENEFITS!” and we decided to honor our community with continuing this program. We want our loyal customers to be able to get the medicine they need because we know a number of them can’t afford it all on their own. So we crunched the numbers and found a compromise that we hope everyone will enjoy. We now offer $30/month to each Medical patient who needs the money to supply themselves with their medicine. We know that it is risky to give money away when we don’t get anything back, but we love our customers and we want to see them happy and healthy!

There is no saying exactly where the Medical marijuana industry is heading with so many recreational companies offering products for cheaper and of higher quality than on Medical. There’s really no saying that Medical marijuana will exist the way we remember it, but we know people need our help and we want to do everything we can to give it to them.

Thank you for all of your support over the years,

Sincerely, -Your Friendly Billo Staff-

Cannabis Summer Safety

We all love using cannabis products (well, at least those of us who've made it to this site). An essential part of being a responsible cannabis consumer is safety, so we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone to use products in a safe and responsible manor. HEAT is real and it will knock you on your behind if you're not careful. Remember that even if you're in water or in the shade, the heat will cause your body to "act in mysterious ways" (cue music). Hydration is key when it comes to the dry, high-altitude climate we live in. Always drink enough water throughout the day and ALWAYS when consuming cannabis, alcohol, or any other chemistry-altering products. It's a hot one as we prepare for this year's 4th of July extravaganzas so we just wanted to take a minute of our time to ensure our friends and family are safe, comfortable, and enjoying every moment of this beautiful Colorado weather. Thanks for taking the time to read!

Hiking with Puppies!

Take a Tour of Our Space

The Billo dispensary is now open for business! Our new home was designed to connect us to our Rocky Mountain heritage and celebrate the pursuit of happiness through educated marijuana use. Take a virtual tour to see what we mean, and don’t forget to stop in!

We wanted the retail environment to be warm, inviting and modern while remaining true to the mountain aesthetic that informs everything we do. The layout was carefully designed to limit the amount of time people will spend waiting in line while giving our guests as much one-on-one contact with our staff and products as they desire.

It was important that the space reflect who we are, so several of our team members were closely involved in the design process. Steamboat’s own Katie Kiefer of West Elevation Architects is responsible for much of the design. We communicated our retail needs to her and she realized them with style. For the full build-out, we have co-owner Paul Franklin to thank. His expert handiwork brought Katie’s vision to life perfectly.

The most innovative feature is our online order pickup window. It allows you to order from our full suite of products online, skip the lines and pick up your order in no time at all. We’re excited about this option, which provides the same high level of service, expediently and discretely.

New to Marijuana? 4 Steps to Getting Started

If you’re new to the world of cannabis, it can be difficult to figure out just where to begin. At Billo, we’re happy to share our expertise. Follow these four steps to help minimize any adverse effects and maximize your enjoyment.

Disclaimer: Do not use marijuana if you’re under 21 years of age. Keep out of reach of children.

Step 1: Identify your goals.

Different cannabis products are suitable for different people. Finding the right place to start depends on what you hope to get out of the experience. So, before you dive in, come and talk to us. We’ll help you figure out your personal objectives, and make sure you’re paired with a product that will fulfill them. We’re here to take the fear and discomfort out of the equation by providing all the best information possible.

Step 2: Pace yourself.

Start out slow. Whether you’re trying edibles or smoking/vaping flowers and concentrates, only take the dose we recommend to start with. Don’t add any more for at least two hours so you can get used to the feeling. Dosing moderately ensures you won’t overdo it, and gives you the time necessary to evaluate how you’re feeling.

Step 3: Find your comfort zone.

It may seem obvious, but make sure you are in a space where you feel safe and relaxed, and are surrounded by people who put you at ease.

Step 4: Learn as you go.

Your first set of experiences should be about building your comfort and confidence. Think of each time as an experiment that will offer valuable information about what you like. Take note of what’s working, what’s not, and why, and you’ll have more control over your experiences going forward.

And that’s it! We hope that with these four simple steps, your introduction to cannabis will be exhilarating, safe and satisfying.

And of course, if you have health concerns related to marijuana use, talk to your doctor before beginning.
